Flying Young Eagles since 1993

EAA began the Young Eagles program in 1993 with a goal to introduce one million youth to the joy of flight by 2003, the 50th anniversary of the EAA and the 100th anniversary of flight. This goal was met and exceeded in August, 2003!

Have you ever dreamed of flying with Eagles? The opportunity is closer than you think. EAA Chapter 818 pilots have an active Young Eagles program designed for young dreamers between the ages of 8 and 17 years old.

Licensed Pilots volunteer their airplanes, fuel and time to give youth in the Skagit Valley an opportunity to experience flight! Young Eagles may fly out of Anacortes, Skagit/Bayview, and Arlington airports.

Flights usually consist of a walk-around inspection of the airplane, where the pilot will give an overview of how airplanes fly. Following a thorough pre-flight, your Young Eagle will be strapped in, and take to the skies! To make the flying experience more enjoyable and educational, each child is given a solo ride with the pilot. This allows the child to receive individual attention from the pilot, and allows the pilot to answer all questions the Young Eagle may have. If desired, the Young Eagle even gets a turn at the controls!

Depending on the location and conditions, the flight may skirt the Cascade Front, over-fly the Puget Sound, or zoom over the Skagit tulip fields and farmlands.

After the flight is over, parents can take those photos with pilots in front of the airplane. Once you become a Young Eagle your name is entered into the World's Largest Logbook.

Chapter 818's Young Eagle program is most active during the Spring/Summer/Fall season. We will usually be at events such as the NW EAA (Arlington) Fly-In, as well as other events. All flights are at NO COST to the Young Eagle, and every pilot/aircraft is insured. All we ask is that the parent or guardian sign a permission slip to protect our pilots.
