Thinking of Building?
The decision to build a plane is a big step. Much has been written about the choices that must be made. Do you have the skills to complete your project, or can you develop those skills? Are there resources in the area, such as an EAA chapter, other builders, user's groups, etc. to lend a hand? Is your significant other (SO) going to be supportive?
One of the best things you can do prior to making any decisions is to join your local EAA Chapter. The Chapter will usually have members who will buck rivets, mix epoxy, lay-up fiberglass, and tell tall tales! Members are always willing to stop by and help unload crates when the shipping company shows up with all of the pieces and parts you ordered, lend a hand when you can't reach both ends of the bolt at the same time, or throw a covering party when you're ready to cover your fabric airplane.
The EAA website has lots of information for builders on their website (EAA membership required). There are several books out there that cover everything from choosing a homebuilt, to installing the engine, and completeing a successful series of test-flights.
