Experimental Aircraft Association - Chapter 818 - Burlington, WA
The April meeting program will be Stu making a presentation on his new engine
and an update on his Zenith kit.
The May meeting will be kept short to support the Spot Landing Competition.
Whatever the weather impact on the flying portion of the activity we will do
the "Burger Burn". Stu says he has grill and will travel.
June will see us making plans for the Fly Mart and fencing party. An around
the room may be the scheduled program. Both Daly Hadley and Don and Sharon
Hall may have airplanes to be featured at some future date, maybe June or
later.
The Fly-In to NAS Whidbey won't happen in April. Per one of our members who
is a civilian employee at the base the person in charge of the aero club will
welcome us. The Public Affairs says "NO WAY" to a fly-in by private
airplanes. There are other groups that have applied to fly in but were
turned down. Too much liability. Small plane landing gear is too
susceptible to hanging up on arresting gear wires for one potential problem.
He said groups that want to visit via ground travel are welcome and the base
has even provided bus transportation from off base locations to ease entry or
even get from the ferry landing. Tours of the tower and other facilities
have been accommodated.
Stu will get the By-Laws per what we have received from EAA, and are probably
in the records he received when he took over as Secretary, to Tom. Tom said
that being a non-profit organization requires current updates of our by-laws.
We discussed a couple changes I am aware of that were made in the past. I
don't know if they will show up in the records found since the chapter
history goes back over 25 years. There is plenty of time for things to have
gotten lost.
We need to add the requirement to send in the annual EAA document package to
our "Annual To Do" list. By not getting it in on time there is a period when
we do not have insurance coverage from the chapter and the chapter does not
show up on the current list of active chapters. I don't know what else gets
missed. Also to be added is the renewal of school subscriptions if the
decision is to continue the program as EAA does not send out a renewal
notice.
Tom will send email of the redistributed list of schools to be contacted about
the Sport Aviation subscriptions to school libraries. We have had some
reports of "keep them coming" and "stop sending them". One thought was
encouraging members to contribute their copies to various schools when they
have finished reading them. There are several ways this might be
accomplished. We will contact the schools that remain to be contacted per
the list that Tom will email.
The "Life Membership" qualification criteria for members were discussed.
Basically we don't have an established policy written down. We need to
revisit this to establish an ongoing policy. I have worked with Tom to
identify chapter members who have been so honored and the reasons they were
selected.
The Spot Landing Contest scheduled for May was discussed but tabled until next
month for final details. Having a "Burger Burn" featuring rollers and
sliders was planned. Final planning and organization remains.
I made specific mention of appreciation for the continued strong support of
chapter activities by David and Kathy Mischke. Their support of all chapter
activities has been continuous and significant.
That covers as many of the items as come to mind at this late hour.
We will update email addresses with Verizon as the provider to Frontier. A
number of addresses were kicked back despite efforts to get the list updated.
